AFSCME Council 93 is a mid-sized non-profit organization located currently in Boston, but we will be relocating our headquarters to Westborough, MA over the next few weeks. We are supportive, rewarding and fun!

DESCRIPTION:

Reports and provides direct assistance to the Business Manager. Supports operations of the Business Office by maintaining the accounting and financial records of the organization, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, processing of membership dues and employee payroll of Council 93.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Process cash receipts, cash disbursements, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and reimbursable expenses.
  • Assists in processing semi-monthly payroll using Paylocity software.
  • Assists in the preparation of the monthly and quarterly financial statements.
  • Performs duties related to Council employee benefits administration; enrollment in benefits programs, maintenance of records (adds, changes, deletions), communication with employees regarding benefits programs
  • Assists in processing membership dues and maintenance of membership database.
  • Maintains records of the Council - protection, retrieval, transfer and disposal of records.
  • Assists in annual reports for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Department of Labor (DOL) and Worker’s Compensation audits for all states.
  • Assists in the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget by gathering and organizing financial information; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances.
  • Assists in the maintenance of office equipment, furniture and supplies by planning procurement and maintenance; evaluating products, service and warranties.
  • Assist in the annual audit process for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and the

International Union auditors.

  • Provides assistance on behalf of the Business Office during conventions, conferences and quarterly executive board meetings including assisting committees and maintaining records for delegates and attendees.
  • Other duties as assigned.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • 3-5 years’ experience in an Accounting/Business Office setting is preferred.
  • High School Diploma required. Associates degree preferred
  • Experience in processing employee payroll preferably with Paylocity software
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to tax exempt organizations
  • Working knowledge of and experience with computerized accounting software
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office, strong Excel skills preferred.
  • Familiarity with the operation of various office equipment
