Job Description As our Daypart Manager , you'll be a pivotal leader in defining how our stories resonate with Chicago, guiding our content and empowering our team across all platforms – from broadcast to digital and social media. You'll be responsible for the strategic vision of news coverage within your designated editorial coverage period and for fostering the professional growth of platform managers and content producers across different dayparts. Your focus will be on delivering compelling, informative news and developing the talent that creates it. What You'll Do Lead Integrated Daypart Strategy: Drive the editorial strategy for news content within your assigned block across all platforms, ensuring a cohesive and impactful narrative. Manage and Develop Talent: Lead, mentor, and evaluate platform managers and content producers, fostering their skills and supporting their growth. Leverage Digital Insights: Use digital data and trends to inform content strategies and talent development, optimizing online engagement. Collaborate for Coverage: Work with newsroom teams to ensure seamless news coverage throughout the day. Contribute to Multi-Platform Presentations: Shape engaging news presentations for broadcast, digital, and social platforms. Champion Modern News Delivery: Help the team adapt to new technologies and workflows. Build Community Connections: Develop relationships with community groups and contribute to special programming. Drive Content and Talent Initiatives: Create new programming ideas and nurture talent for leadership roles. Manage News Events: Oversee editorial and logistical aspects of breaking and planned news coverage. Support Operations: Help resolve operational challenges and manage resources. Uphold Journalistic Standards: Maintain professionalism and ethical standards. Support Team Growth: Coach, give feedback, and develop future leaders. Provide Leadership Coverage: Participate in on-call rotation for weekend news operations. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Journalism or related field. At least five years of news management experience with leadership and talent development proven success. Understanding of news consumption across platforms, including digital and social media. Knowledge of current events and ability to contextualize for diverse audiences. Experience leading, mentoring, and evaluating newsroom teams. Ability to use digital data to inform strategies. Familiarity with newsroom operations, technology, and talent management. Strong commitment to journalistic ethics. Excellent communication and management skills. Strategic planning and execution skills for news coverage. Background in journalism and TV news production.
