The Orthopedics - Sports Medicine Physician provides specialized acute injury care within an occupational medicine outpatient setting, focusing on work-related musculoskeletal and other injuries. Responsibilities include diagnosing, treating, and managing occupational injuries, performing fit-for-duty evaluations, supervising advanced practice providers, and collaborating with employers on treatment plans. The role supports clinical leadership and delivers high-quality healthcare with integrated EMR systems and minimal administrative tasks.

Medicine for Business and Industry (MBI) operates outpatient clinics specializing in acute injury care within an Occupational Medicine setting. Our services focus on treating occupational injuries. No chronic pain management! Our fully integrated EMR system enables providers to deliver high-quality patient care with minimal administrative responsibilities.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Compensation: Hourly rates range from $113.00 to $130.00, dependent on experience

Summary:
Working in coordination with the other members of the Center Leadership Team and under Direction of the State Medical Director, the Center Medical Director shall deliver the highest quality healthcare in an efficient, affordable, and caring manner. The Center Medical Director drives daily center execution following the industrial athlete model and is responsible for the assigned clinic s daily medical functions including supervision of Advanced Practice Providers. This is a full-time clinical position with little administrative responsibility.

Job Functions:
  • Provides healthcare to patients both in clinic and via tele-medicine according to the established principles of clinical practice and the current organizational plan or need.
  • Provides supervision of any Advanced Practice Provider (APP) at the Physician s clinic location, including medical record review/oversight, direct supervision of clinical practice, and performance feedback reviews.
  • Perform complete history and physical exams including all body systems, vision, hearing, and/or electrocardiograms for the purpose of determining capacity to safely perform specified job functions.
  • Provide medical opinion regarding job accommodations if needed to safely perform specified job functions.
  • Participate in the legal process of workers compensation, including SAMM s calls, depositions, and testifying in hearings when requested.
  • Review and interpret radiographs of the chest to determine the presence of a pre-existing pulmonary condition prior to beginning work.
  • Perform Fit for Duty evaluations
  • Evaluate and manage the following conditions:
    • Common occupational musculoskeletal injuries of the neck, back, and upper and lower extremities.
    • Work-related injuries to the head with or without loss of consciousness, assuming the individual is currently conscious and alert.
    • Work-related injuries to the chest or abdomen, with the possibility of hernias.
    • Work-related lacerations of the face, scalp, and extremities.
    • Work-related eye injuries, including foreign bodies to the eye, non-penetrating eye injuries, and chemical exposures.
    • Work-related rashes and other occupational skin conditions.
    • Occupational asthma and other work-related respiratory symptoms.
    • Treatment of non-displaced uncomplicated fractures, including interpreting radiographs, splinting, and orthopedic referral when appropriate.
  • Evaluation and management to include:
    • Perform complete and accurate history and physical, including detailed documentation of current work-related complaint, mechanism of injury, activity, and occupational limitations, leading to accurate diagnosis and medically appropriate management of the patient.
    • Being aware of OSHA recordability and rendering medically appropriate care, while being aware and sensitive to treatment which makes an injury recordable to the employer.
    • Knowledge of "first aid" treatments, and using them when medically appropriate, including appropriate over-the-counter medications, application of heat or cold, bandages, basic wound care, referral for home exercise training.
    • Prescription of appropriate medications and therapy.
    • Ordering and interpretation of appropriate radiographs.
    • Referral for specialized testing such as MRI, EMG as necessary and appropriate.
    • Referral for specialty care as appropriate.
    • Identification of appropriate limitations to activity at home and work.
    • Rendering an opinion regarding causality and work relatedness.
    • Communication with employers at the completion of the first visit to review the treatment plan and work capacity of the patient, and at times through the case as requested from the employer or when deemed necessary by the treating provider.
Leadership/People Development:
  • Leader of the Medical Center, alongside the Center Administrator. Provides Center s clinical and quality oversight. Identifies clinical improvement opportunities and works with clinical leadership to improve.
  • Leverages clinical guidance for resolving provider quality issues.
  • Attends and co-leads weekly Clinic Leadership Team CLT meetings, 15 minutes once weekly.
Work Environment
  • Sustainable schedule allowing time to perform detailed patient assessments, communicate with the employer, and communicate with your treatment team.
  • Collaborative relationship among all disciplines including medical, physical therapy, chiropractic, massage, and counseling.

  • Dedicated center administrator to assist with operational tasks
  • Training platform to develop occupational medicine skill set
Requirements:
  • MD/DO
  • Occupational Medicine experience preferred, but we are willing to train otherwise qualified candidates with experience in UC, FP, IM, ER, Sports Medicine, or Ortho
  • CO DOWC Level I & II accreditation preferred, required within 6 months of hire (certification expenses covered by MBI)
  • FMCSA certification for DOT exams, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
  • Current state licensure in good standing (or in process)
  • Current DEA licensure
  • Current BLS or ACLS certificate
  • Skills in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making to achieve organizational objectives in a rapidly changing business environment.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in computer use and Electronic Medical Records systems.
  • Customer service oriented; strong organizational skills and ability to develop relationships with staff, patients, and clients.
  • Must maintain confidentiality.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
